Rodja ro* Galli (* 1979), who commutes between Lucerne and Berne, earned his degree in illustration at Hochschule Luzern – Design & Kunst und Kunst and at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. Since 2006 he has been working on a freelance basis under the pseudonym ro*.
He explores the diverse visual creative spectrum with humor, objectivity and esprit. His portfolio includes graphic and layout works, magazine illustrations, interior and stage designs and designs for industrial clothes and skateboards.
ro* also feels at home in the field of fine arts. Everyday global urban culture functions as a source of inspiration for his uncommissioned works, which he wittily and at times ironically reflects, while staying true to its characteristic graphic style, with markers and acrylic – also with spray can in public spaces in his youth. In his paintings and graphic prints, especially in the medium of silkscreen, the viewer encounters a cloud of white poodles, the dense architectural structures of a favela or a hooded person whose brain floats in the form of a lamp outside the picture and who craves love and appreciation, as expressed by the little heart prints on his scarf.
Ever the tireless networker, ro* periodically initiates creative projects, such as the cu(t)bus event (since 2016), for which he brings together (friendly) artists. Spontaneously and in situ, they createfor several days a “cardboard room” in the public sphere, consisting of four walls created around a specific topic. At the closing interested parties have the possibility, as in an auction, to bid on sections of the wall paintings for a price per square meter.
