MYRIAM MIZZO GÄMPERLI

Myriam Mizzo Gämperli (*1982) is a trained graphic designer who completed a master program in Art and Design in 2012 at the Hochschule Luzern – Design & Kunst with a focus in illustration. After stays in London as designer, Berlin and Manila as artist in residence, she currently lives and works in Zurich.

Mizzo produces concepts in the fields of graphic design and illustration on commission as well as independently. Since 2005 she has been working as a freelance artist, easily shifting between various techniques, forms of expression and materials.

Following an invitation for the unique street art project in Switzerland “4661m2– Art in Prison” in the penal institution Lenzburg, Mizzo created colorful wall paintings and, together with sixteen other artists transformed the prison complex – its exercise yards, corridors, staircases and exterior walls – into a complete work of art.

In the framework of the exposition ARTXFOUR (2018) in the Galleria SACCHETTI Mizzo creates a room – paying attention to the specific architecture of the building – that makes the visitor forget present reality for a short time. She directly puts brush to wall, generating lines in her typical dynamic style and transforming the exhibition room into a colorful cosmos, in which humorous and absurd elements encounter one another. To enhance the spatial experience small and large-scaled collages are arranged on the walls and partially accented in bright acrylic paints. Body parts and everyday objects cut out of magazines from the 1950s or from botanical publications are decontextualized and freshly and lightheartedly intertwined by the artist so that the initial message of the picture changes.
