Sandra Hanekom’s art is reminiscent of both the paintings of Dutch and Flemish old masters as well as the imagery of Surrealism. As a reference to her homeland, African motifs can also be found in part. The small-format works are finely painted in oil and characterized by a graceful coloring. Hanekom’s pictures radiate something mysterious and sometimes bizarre. The artist describes her paintings as “ironically romantic with a definite sense of narrative and the personal.”
Sandra Hanekom was born in Bellville, South Africa, in 1971. After attending the Kruin Art School in Johannesburg, she studied fine arts at the University of Stellenbosch. In addition to her artistic activities, she regularly curates exhibitions. Hanekom has received several awards for her work. The Galleria SACCHETTI is delighted to be the first to show works by the South African painter in Switzerland in spring 2020. Hanekom lives and works in Piketberg, South Africa.
