Over the years, the German artist Ingo Wegerl (*1952) developed his own pictorial language. With a few exceptions, the subject – people or objects – is reproduced in its higher degree of reality in the middle of the painting as starting point of the composition. Further representations of the same item in smaller form join to this. Horizontal und vertical lines or varying repetitions play here the same role as dualities, in form of couple of opposites. The interlacing of references between naturalistic truth and deeper meaning from this, is the real occasion for questions concerning reality and illusion, superficiality and profundity.
Ingo Wegerl currently lives and works in Mönchengladbach.
